Visit to the Christmas Markets in Cologne and Phantasialand
4th - 7th December 2008
32 pupils from years 7 – 10 recently spent an exciting and memorable weekend in Cologne, Germany. Pupils had the opportunity to speak German and enjoy the German Christmas experience.
On the Friday we visited the city of Cologne and pupils had the opportunity to shop in the main shopping centre and to look around the traditional and impressive Christmas Market at the ‘Domplatz’. The market at the Cologne Cathedral is the most impressive of the 6 Christmas markets in Cologne due to the backdrop of the imposing Cathedral. Pupils looked around the 160 wooden market huts placed beneath the largest Christmas tree in the Rhineland.
In the late afternoon we visited the famous and impressive Cathedral. The majority of pupils paid their Euro and took the opportunity climb the 509 steps to the top of the tower!! Although the climb to the top was exhausting, the view of the cities Christmas lights was fantastic.
On the Saturday we visited Phantasialand Theme Park. Pupils enjoyed their day and spent time going on the rides, riding the toboggans, ice skating and playing in the snow!
