Aims of the P.E. Department:
Abersychan P.E. department strives to promote fitness and general health to all pupils. As a department we adopt a holistic teaching approach thus developing the pupil physically, socially, emotionally & intellectually.
Our aim is to:
Encourage individuals to develop, achieve and maintain high standards of performance within their capabilities in a variety of activities.
Develop acceptable social and sporting attitudes, with an awareness of the responsibilities towards colleagues, teachers and the community as a whole.
Develop pupil self confidence, self-respect and encourage empathy, sensitivity and tolerance towards others.
Encourage a healthy living and active lifestyles.

Role of the Department:
The department encourages pupils to participate in P.E. and games regularly throughout their school years. It is hoped that they leave with a sound understanding in all major games offered in the first three years and an aesthetic appreciation of body movement through gymnastics and dance.
Pupils’ should also have developed an interest in other aspects of P.E. that will be enhanced through further participation in their leisure pursuits after they leave school.
The department is able to offer a wide range of extra curricular activities which will allow all pupils to develop further as well as coaching to a high standard the more able pupils.
The department provides competitive situations to pupils both in lessons with inter house competitions, and by playing matches against local schools. It is hoped that competition is for further enjoyment and that winning is a ‘bonus’.
Pride in appearance is also emphasised with P.E. kit being closely monitored for reasons such as: - appearance, hygiene, practicalities. It is also emphasised that a smartly turned out team encourages the right attitude, and raises the standard of play.
