Peer Mentoring

Being a Peer Mentor

It sounds quiet a professional title, but really it’s just young people talking to other young people about their problems. It was set up so that if a young person didn’t feel like they could talk to an adult, then they could go and talk to someone closer to their own age. Mentors learn the skills they need while they are mentoring, sort of like learning on the job. Peer Mentors are chosen from year 9 and they receive training throughout year 10. Also if the mentors feel that they have a problem that is too big for them to deal with then they can go and ask Rob Barrowdale who runs the scheme for advice about dealing with the situation.
