School Council

At Abersychan School, we are committed to ensuring all our pupils are given the opportunity to communicate their views about the school.  The School Council at Abersychan School comprises a group of pupils who have been elected by their fellow pupils to represent their opinions and raise issues with the Headteacher and Governing Body.  The council meets every half term with Mrs. Leaves and Mr. Conway to discuss aspects of school life, take forward projects on the behalf of the pupils and identify further opportunities for improvement. Following each meeting, the year representatives are responsible for feeding back to their peers regarding the progress made and the outcomes of the meetings.  Additionally, two pupils are representative on the school’s Governing Body.

The School Councillors (2010-2011) are:

Since September, a number of actions have been taken by the school as a result of the work of the School Council.

  • The girls’ toilets in G Block have been repaired and reopened.  All cubicles have lockable doors and fixed seats.  There is a new boiler providing plenty of hot water and new soap dispensers have been installed.
  • The council has decided to purchase some picnic benches for the school grounds, as the limited seating areas we deemed a priority for improvement. These are under order and the representatives are now in consultation with their peers as to the most appropriate places for the benches to be situated.
  • The bins by the tennis courts and playing fields will have holes placed in the top to allow pupils a way to deposit rubbish without the need to lift a lid.
